The Crooked – From Concept to 3D

The Crooked is a mutant creature from my personal universe Cannon Fodder, a dark science-fiction horror setting where contamination and genetic mutations have reshaped both the environment and the people who inhabit it.

Unlike most mutants, the Crooked is not an aggressive predator. It wanders almost aimlessly, surviving through instinct while its body continues to deteriorate. Its anatomy reflects years of uncontrolled mutation:
Its most distinctive mutation is a brain split into two independent hemispheres. Each half controls one side of its body and communicates through its own mouth, forcing the creature to constantly "talk to itself" in order to coordinate movement, memory, and thought.

A single oversized eye is shared between both halves, allowing them to perceive the same world while interpreting it separately. This perpetual internal dialogue gives the Crooked its slow, erratic movements and unsettling behavior.

This project began as a traditional ink illustration before evolving into a complete 3D character. It includes the original concept, sculpting, texturing, lighting, and final presentation, with the goal of preserving both the visual identity and the biological logic behind the creature.

This is the character concept, which I used as a guide to create the model.

This was the first 3D model I ever made, and I improved it as I learned to use these programs.

Finally, I finished the sculpting process and moved on to posing.

After deciding on the tone of the scene, I placed the character in his neighborhood, adding warm lights and some cool ones for contrast.
